FAQs - Investment Management
Find answers to common questions about our investment management services and approach.
What does Keynote Financial do?
We are a fiduciary investment adviser committed to providing objective, unbiased advice that always serves our clients’ best interests. Our core services include portfolio management and retirement planning, but our support goes beyond that—we help clients find answers to all of their financial questions, no matter how big or small.
To foster a true partnership and minimize potential conflicts of interest, we do not hold insurance or securities licenses, and we don’t earn commissions. This allows us to focus solely on what matters most: helping you make informed, confident decisions about your financial future.
What does it mean that you’re fiduciary advisors?
Being fiduciaries means we are legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interests, offering transparent advice without pushing products.
What kind of clients do you typically serve?
We work with individuals and families from all walks of life—whether you're just getting started on your financial journey or you're managing a more complex portfolio. Our commitment is to provide thoughtful, personalized guidance to anyone who needs it. We don’t have account minimums, because we believe quality financial advice should be accessible to everyone.
How do you charge for your services?
We charge a transparent, asset-based fee—calculated as a percentage of the assets we manage on your behalf. This structure aligns our compensation with the size of your portfolio, encouraging a long-term, client-first approach.
We offer separately managed accounts, meaning your investments are held in your name and designed to reflect your financial goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon. Every client receives individualized attention, and you work directly with a partner who takes the time to understand your full financial picture—not just your investments.
Unlike paying a management fee to a mutual fund or large institution, our clients benefit from a direct relationship with an experienced adviser who is available to answer a wide range of financial questions and help coordinate other aspects of their financial lives as needed.
Do you have custody of my assets? How do I know my money is safe?
Your investment accounts are held in your name at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., a qualified third-party custodian. We do not directly hold your funds or securities.
In some cases, you may authorize us — through a standing letter of authorization (SLOA) — to transfer funds to a third party on your behalf. These arrangements are subject to strict regulatory safeguards and Schwab’s internal procedures. Even in these cases, your assets remain custodied at Schwab, and you receive independent account statements directly from them.
We are independently owned and operated and not affiliated with Charles Schwab. Schwab does not endorse or recommend us, nor do we receive compensation from Schwab for using their custodial services. Our relationship with Schwab is limited to custody and brokerage support for your accounts.
Am I locked into a long-term contract?
No — there’s no long-term commitment required.
Our relationship is based on trust, not contracts. You’re free to end the relationship at any time, without penalties or exit fees. We believe in earning your confidence through our work, not binding you with fine print.
If you ever feel that we’re not the right fit, we’ll make the transition as smooth and respectful as possible.
How do I get started?
It’s simple — reach out through our contact form or give us a call. We’ll schedule a conversation to learn about your goals and see how we can help.
